PUC validity period?+
New vehicles (first 1 year): 1 year PUC validity. After that: 6 months for petrol/CNG, 3 months for diesel. BS6 vehicles: 6 months standard. Renew before expiry to avoid penalty.
PUC certificate cost?+
Two-wheeler: Rs 50-100. Petrol car: Rs 80-150. Diesel car: Rs 100-200. Commercial: Rs 150-300. Test takes 5-15 minutes. Available at authorized centers, petrol pumps, RTOs.
Penalty for no PUC?+
Driving without valid PUC: Rs 10,000 first offense (MV Act amendment 2019). Some states issue Rs 1,000 first time. Vehicle can be seized. Insurance claim rejected if expired during accident.
How to get PUC online?+
Test must be done physically at authorized center. After test, certificate generated digitally - download from puc.parivahan.gov.in. Save in DigiLocker. Show on phone during traffic check.
Vehicle fails PUC test?+
Get serviced: clean air filter, check spark plugs, fuel injection, exhaust system. Retake test (Rs 30-100). Multiple failures: major overhaul needed. Old vehicles may fail repeatedly.
PUC for electric vehicles?+
EVs exempt from PUC since they have zero tailpipe emissions. RC clearly mentions electric vehicle. No PUC needed. CNG/LPG vehicles need regular PUC test as conventional fuel.
BS6 PUC requirement?+
BS6 vehicles (since April 2020) have stricter emission norms but same PUC requirement. Most BS6 easily pass. Tampering with BS6 emission system: heavy fines + warranty void.
